Ayurveda Support Circle on June 12th
Each season, Ayurveda teaches us how to adjust our diets and lifestyles to live in greater alignment and balance with the rhythms of nature. Please join me and Hannah Leatherbury on Tuesday, June 12th from 7:30 to 9:00 pm to share and discuss practices for the summer, chant an uplifting mantra or two, and enjoy a seasonally-inspired cup of herbal tea.
This gathering is a pilot for reviving the Ayurvedic Support Circle started by Belinda Baer several years ago. We hope to offer it seasonally to strengthen the bonds of those of us trying to practice Ayurveda in the metro-DC area. The gathering will be held at my home in Silver Spring. Please RSVP so that I can count you among the guests and send you my address. If you are interested but cannot make the first meeting, let me know that too, and you will get notice of future gatherings.  dhelfeld@starpower.net

Yoga for Osteoporosis on June 27th
This workshop is designed for those with osteoporosis or osteopenia as well as for anyone who wants to build healthier bones. You will learn practices that may help prevent fractures and can improve posture, balance, and bone strength. The core focus of the afternoon will be on a 12-pose yoga sequence developed by Dr. Loren Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall. This sequence was used in a recent research study on yoga and osteoporosis, which demonstrated that a consistent yoga practice can help build bone mineral density. The instructor, Debbie Helfeld, is certified to teach Dr. Loren Fishman's Method of Yoga for Osteoporosis. She will also share information about diet and other lifestyle practices that contribute to building and maintaining healthy bones, from both the yogic and Ayurvedic perspectives. This workshop is open to students of all levels, from yoga novices to more advanced students.

Summer Cooking Workshop on July 8th
Come and learn to cook tasty Indian vegetarian food!  This is a hands on workshop.  Everyone helps prepare the meal, and then we all eat together in a calm and peaceful setting. Handouts include all the recipes we prepare, good practices for the summer season, where to find common ingredients and some basic information about Ayurveda and the 6 tastes.
You will also take home a summer spice mix.  If you want to see pictures from my last workshop please look at my last entry on this blog.   These are always a lot of fun! Contact me to reserve your space at dhelfeld@starpower.net

Thanks, and hope to see you at one or more of these events!
