Establishing a Daily Routine is important for maintaining balance in our lives, and a solid morning routine sets a positive tone for the whole day, grounding us, bringing in a sense of calm and well being, and enabling us to be prepared for whatever comes our way. This is true now more than ever in these unsettled times.
Here are a few suggestions for your morning practice, inspired in part by the "New Daily Routine" Michael Moore presented at the Women's March last Saturday. I have incorporated and changed a few of his suggestions to conform to my routine and Ayurvedic principles.
- Wake up before or at dawn and say an expression of gratitude
before getting out of bed.
- Splash cold water on your face.
- Use a tongue scraper to scrape your tongue.
- Brush your teeth.
- Do a few minutes of yoga stretches.
- Drink a glass of warm water with lemon (before drinking
coffee).
- Feed the cat(s) or walk your dog.
- Do an inward focused practice like meditation, chanting or
prayer.
- Call Congress.
Here I am sitting for my morning meditation.
